Our Programs
Student Sponsorship Program
The goal of the Student Sponsorship Program is for every child to learn an occupation that will give them an income for life. It gives families an opportunity to break the poverty cycle. Without help, poverty will continue for the next generation. The family makes a small contribution to the cost of the child's schooling as family involvement gives value to education and assists with sustainability; your sponsorship provides the rest.
Women’s Empowerment Program
The life of a single mother in Uganda is extremely challenging. Many single mothers are victims of domestic violence. Our Women's Empowerment Program supports single mothers to overcome adversity through counselling, literacy, numeracy & business studies, skill training and small business start-up initiatives. Capacity building for a single mother enables income generation and a change to self-sustainability.
Wajoli Kindergarten & Primary School
Wajoli Kindergarten & Primary School has a strong focus on 'learning through play', phonics, positive reinforcement and good values to contribute positively to society. Small class sizes, practical lessons, strong reading and comprehension skills and a feeding program improve a child's learning and give them the opportunity to thrive and succeed. Located in Ocuka Village, it is the only school within 5km. Without the school, that’s a long walk to school for young children!
Library & Computers
Housing a library of textbooks, fiction, non-fiction, teaching resources and educational games is vital for the school and community. Coupled with the village Computer Laboratory, they provide learning, enjoyment, hope and inspiration. It gives individuals an opportunity to thrive.
Our adult literacy and numeracy classes, computer classes, tutoring for struggling students, and holiday programs ensure that all members of the community have an opportunity to learn.
School Feeding
Many children in northern Uganda suffer from malnutrition-related illnesses, such as stunting and wasting, which can impair physical and cognitive development.
Our School Feeding Program provides nutritious meals to support growth and development, and enables good concentration for learners.
By providing meals at school, attendance and educational outcomes improve. Trying to learn on an empty stomach is not easy!
Future Growth & Development
To fully realise a child’s potential, we plan to continue opening P5 - P7 primary levels. To achieve this, three more classrooms, an office, store and larger school kitchen are required.
Final renovations of our 3 kindergarten classrooms, more play equipment and a larger Day Care Centre is also needed.
We seek your prayers and support to help us achieve these future growth and development goals that will allow our vulnerable children the opportunity to complete their education.
Special Projects
-
Provide a Teacher's Salary
Providing a Teacher Salary enables smaller class sizes. Without assistance, classes have up to 140 students crammed into a 6x8 sized room.
For only $3,000, you can cover the cost of a teacher’s salary for an entire year at our school or one of our partner schools. Specialist teachers in Secondary are lacking and students often fail a subject simply because there is no well-trained teacher.
By providing a teacher's salary, you will ensure students receive quality learning for a successful future.

Only 3 Classrooms left to renovate!
Wajoli School urgently needs renovations for 3 out of 4 classrooms due to termite damage. Despite attempts to spray, termites persist, and the plywood walls harbour snakes, endangering students.
Thanks to the generosity of hardworking Aussies, one classroom is renovated, and we aim to finish the rest this year.
We'll replace plywood with mud bricks, plaster, and paint walls, repair the concrete floor, and install a ceiling to reduce the heat from the outer-metallic classroom block walls and roof.
Your support will create a safe and healthy learning environment for children.

Provide a 14-Seater School Van
In our community, many children walk long distances to school, often hungry and facing safety risks on the road. This is especially hard for young children (3 - 6 years old) who struggle to cope.
To address this, we aim to acquire a Toyota Hiace 4WD 14 Seater van. This van will ensure safe transportation for students, allowing them to arrive at school refreshed and ready to learn.
Additionally, during school hours, the van will serve as a shuttle bus, helping subsistence farming mothers with babies and young children reach Gulu market to sell their produce. This initiative benefits both the school children and the wider community.

Supply Textbooks for Primary
Primary students struggle without textbooks, spending most of the lesson taking notes instead of working on problems. They tend to memorize answers rather than understand the content.
Classroom sets of textbooks improve comprehension, allowing children to learn at their own pace.
Books can be borrowed from our overnight library for homework by flashlight (yes, we don’t have electricity in the village yet!).
